Mýrin aka Jar City (2006)

Now this is hardcore. From the gloomy fjords of Iceland comes a dark drama about sins of the fathers and the sons who bear them. A harsh, uncompromising, cold movie, beautifully shot and very human at times.

As far as I've read on IMDb, the movie is based on a book, which I'd love to read. But the movie itself delivers: the story is intricate, the plot is smart and the loneliness and struggle of the main character is thoughtfully described. It's a masterfully crafted movie, but not an easy flick to watch. Because it doesn't tell you good things about human race. I felt the urge to write about it after Edge of Heaven, because I found Myrin more compelling, and because I didn't find a flaw.

Highly recommended.
